Loreto English Medium High School, CBSE, celebrated Librarians’ Day with a special assembly on August 12, the birthday of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the father of library science in India. The day was dedicated to honoring Dr. Ranganathan’s pioneering contributions to the field of library science and his vision for libraries as spaces of knowledge and inspiration.
The program began with a floral tribute by the dignitaries at the photograph of Dr. Ranganathan.
The Principal, Fr. Jason Vijay Monis, emphasized the transformative power of reading. He stated that books make individuals wise and enhance their capacity to understand the world around them. He also encouraged students to develop a strong reading habit, urging each one to read at least five books per year.
Verona, a Grade 9 student, delivered a speech on the importance of the day, reflecting on Dr. Ranganathan’s legacy and the vital role libraries play in shaping learners and thinkers.
Students participated in a Book Talk session, sharing insights about the books they had read and how those books had inspired and influenced them.
Students performed character portrayals, dressing as their favorite literary characters and bringing them to life on stage. Students also recited original poems written as part of the Poetry Writing Competition.
To mark the occasion, the school library organized several competitions, including Bookmark Making, Poem Writing, and Article Writing. The winners were honored by the Principal with certificates and prizes.
During the program, Janvi Shetty from Grade 5 was felicitated for her achievement in the Independence Cup Inter-School Chess Championship, organized by Derik’s Chess School in association with Infant Jesus English Medium School.
The program was compered by Lyvia of Grade 8, the Welcome Address was given by Sachiel, and the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Joseph.
