Cultivating Curiosity: Loreto Students Connect with Nature at the Horticulture Farm

As part of the CBSE activity-based learning initiative, Loreto English Medium High School CBSE organised an educational field visit for the students of Grade 5 to the Horticulture Department Farm, Thumbay, on 26/08/2025. The objective was to provide students with the opportunity to observe and participate in farming activities, enhancing their knowledge of agriculture and eco-friendly practices. The experts introduced them to a wide variety of plants, fruits, vegetables, and spices cultivated on the farm. They explained the significance of agriculture in daily life and highlighted how farming supports food security and environmental balance.

Students observed different cultivation methods, including traditional and organic farming techniques. They were given information on grafting, preparing seedbeds, planting saplings, using natural fertilizers, and the process of germination. The children enthusiastically participated in sowing seeds and watering plants, gaining practical experience and a sense of connection to nature.

The visit was not only informative but also inspiring. They learned that farming is not only hard work but also a way to support a greener, healthier world. The experience encouraged curiosity, environmental awareness, and respect for nature.

Students were accompanied by School Principal Fr. Jason Vijay Monisand teachers Mrs. Vinitha and Mrs. Reena.
